1.    What does Eritrean American Community Greater Sacramento mean? (Article:1) - Eritrean American Community Greater Sacramento includes all Eritreans permanent residents/citizens of the United States citizens who reside in California’s Greater Sacramento area counties Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado, Sutter, Yolo, or Yuba.

2.    What does it mean non-political, non-religious, and non-sectarian? (Article 2 Mission and Purpose) - A non-political, non-religious, and non-sectarian means including ALL Eritrean Americans, regardless of their religion, political, or sectarian affilation.

ካብ ፖለቲካ ኃይማኖትን ወገናውነትን ነጻ ዝኾነ እንታይ ማለት እዩ? ካብ ፖለቲካ ኃይማኖትን ወገናውነትን ነጻ ዝኾነ፡ ንኹሎም ኤርትራውያን ኣመሪካውያንን ብዘይ ኣፈላላይ ዘአንግድ ማለት ኢዩ፡ (ዓንቀጽ 2.  ዕላማን ተልእኾን ማሕበር)

3.    Does EACGS celebrate any religious or political holidays? According to EACGS bylaws article 5 section b, The board of directors may arrange special events to commemorate traditional holidays at the EACGS community and responsability level, including ALL Eritreans and American Eritreans regardless of their religious or political affilation. EACGS, as a non-profit in the 50l(c) (3) category, can NOT be engaged monetarily with any political parties inside or outside the USA (bylaws article 7.2)

 4.    What is the mission and purpose of EACGS? (Article 2)

The purpose of EACGS as a non-profit organization is  to foster collaboration, support, and quality of life for Eritrean and Eritrean Americans in the greater Sacramento area.  ዕላማን ተልእኾን ማሕበር እንታይ እዩ? ማሕበረሰብ ኤርትራውያን ኣብ ሳክራሜንቶ ካብ ፖለቲካ፡ ሃይማኖትን ወገናውነትን ነጻ ኮይኑ፣ ንኹሎም ኤርትራውያንን፡ ኤርትራውያን ኣመሪካውያንን ተቀማጦ ሳክራሜንቶን ከባቢአን ብዘይ ኣፈላላይ ንምዕባሌኦም ይጽዕር። ትግባረ ዕላማ ማሕበር (ኣብ ነዊሕን ሓጺርን ግዜ ዝትግበሩ ውጥናት) (ዓንቀጽ 2)

a. Establishing a center to gather and perform various social and cultural programs and activities fosters lifelong quality relationships. ናይ ማሕበር ማእከል ንኹሎም ኤርትራውያንን፡ ኤርትራውያን ኣመሪካውያንን ተቀማጦ ሳክራሜንቶን ከባቢአን ዝራኸብሉ፥ነዊሕ ብሉጽ ማሕበራዊ ህይወት  ዝምስረትሉን፥ ኤርትራዊ ባህሊን፥ቋንቋን ዝዕቃብሉን:   ምምስራት።

b. Assisting newly arrived Eritreans in adapting to the American multicultural system, Providing services such as citizenship and legal help, English language training, employment counseling, social adjustment services, cultural preservation and information, referral services, and addressing the unique cultural needs of Eritreans. ንሓደስቲ ኤርትራውያን ምስ ናይ ኣሜሪካ ባህሊን ስርዓትን ክላለዩ ምሕጋዝ፡ ኣገልግሎት ናይ ኣመሪካ ዘግነት ሕጋዊ ምኽረን ሓገዝን፥ ቋንቋ እንግሊዝኛ ስልጠና ምሃብ።

c. Introducing the culture to Eritreans born in America and bridging the gap with adults born in Eritrea. Provide Eritrean language lessons to our children. ኣብ መንጎ ኣብ ኣሜሪካ ዝዓበዩ ኤርትራውያንን: ኣብ ኤርትራ ዚዓበዩን ዘሎ ባህላዊ ፍልልያት ምጽባብ። ቋንቋ ኣደ ንቖልዑ ምምሃር።

d. Introducing programs aimed at skill development. ሞያዊ ክእለት ኣባላት ከማዕብሉ ዝኽእሉ መደባት ምትእትታው።

5.    How to become a member of EACGS.

Membership is per household, and the membership card is valid for a year. Complete the EACGS membership registration form online (https://eacgs.org) and pay a monthly membership of $20 a month, payable annually. Abide by EACGS bylaws. Demonstrate commitment to the success of the community mission and purpose by assisting voluntarily in the community programs, activities, and events and attending a minimum of 50% of the meetings and gatherings.

6.    What’s the Purpose of EACGS Membership Dues?

For EACGS, like any nonprofit organization, membership dues keep the lights on — they provide the funds needed to cover operating costs, run programs, organize events, and give their members an exceptional member experience. Membership dues are one of the biggest sources of revenue for nonprofit organizations. Without them, we have to rely on grants, sponsorships, and donations — while we can and should pursue these, it’s extremely challenging to raise enough money to cover 100% of EACGS expenses while still focusing on providing value to your members.

Currently, EACGS expenses include technology costs to manage EACGS virtual office. Official EACGS.org website and email, membership, finance management portal, online store, and members discussion forum.  EACGS has several programs, of which some % of the membership dues will be used, including Tigrigna classes, youth sports activities, providing support for new Eritrean immigrants, English language training, providing citizenship legal advice, and skill employment and skill development.   Also, although members contribute to get-together events, there are organizing costs, including rental venue insurance and deposits.  Once EACGS membership reaches the desirable level, EACGS operating costs will include renting a small center where EACGS families frequently meet and run the program and events.
